VoIP
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is the latest in phone internet technology. The most practical application lies within its capability of centralizing communications for multi-location businesses. The consolidation of a company's communications results in cost savings and enhanced abilities.VoIP allows for voice communication to be encrypted and compressed then transported through an internet source to its destination. This may not sound so impressive on its own, however, but this method can yield rather large cost savings. For instance, a business has one main branch and five other locations. Each location has four phone lines (three for voice, and one for facsimile). Each location's phone bill is around $200 per month for a grand total of $1200. With a VoIP system, all of the lines could be landed at the main location, then VoIP phones could be placed at the other locations. This would allow any of the stores to access all 24 lines. Each store receives its faxes via e-mail. The total communication cost-less than half of what they were paying.
